Apogee Sponsors Corazon de Vida Foundation’s Annual Career Day
Helping Teens End The Cycle of Poverty, Abandonment, and Suffering
Corazon de Vida Foundation (CDV) held its annual career day event in Ensenada, Mexico, sponsored by Apogee Electronics.
“Career Day” was designed to provide Jr. high and high school teens living at the CDV-supported orphanages an opportunity to learn about the various careers available to them and see that a better future is possible, through hard work and dedication.
Since 2010, the University of Baja California (UABC), Baja’s state university has joined in the program by hosting career day at their local campus. This year, the school of Marine and Environmental Sciences hosted an “expo” where approximately 80 students from 6 orphanages participated and learned about careers in Oceanography, Biotechnology in Aquaculture, and Environmental Sciences. Students learned about composting, recycling, sustainable fishing and aqua farming.
One of the highlights of the day was the “CDV University Students Panel” where 14 of the 36 ex-orphanage residents who are currently in the university program sponsored by Apogee-supported Corazon de Vida opened up about their experience, their triumphs and their struggles as they attend school and prepare for a productive future. They will soon be able to provide for themselves, their families and their communities, and they are already giving back by serving as shining examples and mentors to the younger students. These brave students are ending the cycle of poverty, abandonment and suffering that they have had to endure…their future is looking brighter, thanks to you!
